Fr. Stephan is originally from Anoka, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis. The 12th of 16 children, Fr. Stephan has 11 brothers and 4 sisters (his twin sister’s name is Stephanie).

 

He holds an Associate of Arts in Humanities, a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, and a Master of Divinity. Fr. Stephan has been a spiritual directee himself since his first year of college. In 2007, he completed a program at the Hesychia School of Spiritual Direction in Tucson, Arizona, and has since served as a spiritual director for many people.

 

Fr. Stephan joined the Crosier Fathers and Brothers in 1986 and was ordained as a priest in 1992. He shares the Crosier mission to touch suffering with hope, and his conviction is that in the midst of struggle and pain, God offers life and transformation. Crosier spirituality is that of the Glorious Cross, for in the Cross there is salvation.

His spiritual direction style is to be an attentive listener and help his directee listen to God moving in his or her life. He offers guidance and wisdom, but mostly he sees himself as a companion on the directee’s spiritual journey. Besides offering spiritual direction to people of varying ages and denominations, he also provides grief counseling.

Su interés por la dirección espiritual nació por varias causas; primero que no encontraba un director espiritual que tuviera el tiempo disponible y hablara español, y que pudiera guiarla espiritualmente en un momento bastante crítico de su vida. Segundo, al conocer al padre John Auther, fue introducida a los ejercicios espirituales de San Ignacio, a la conclusión de estos ejercicios, despertó en ella un interés profundo de acompañar y compartir con otros, esta experiencia espiritual. Por este mismo interés, asistió a un cursillo de cuatro semanas en Jalisco, México, un curso de Acompañamiento Espiritual con Énfasis en los Ejercicios Espirituales Ignacianos. Participó en el programa KINO, programa de dos años, con énfasis en estudios bíblicos, catecismo y documentos de la iglesia. También es graduada de ESEC, programa dirigido por el padre Bob Rossi, osc.

 

Adela coordinó y facilitó de Retiros Ignacianos en Poustinia Place, Tonopah, Arizona. Poustinia Place, es un centro de retiro espiritual, para quienes quieren vivir retiros individuales, o en grupos. Desde 2011, este centro ha proporcionado el lugar ideal para los ejercicios espirituales ignacianos. También es un lugar para aquellos que sienten el llamado a pasar un tiempo en el desierto en meditación, oración o simplemente en silencio.

Estela ha completado los 2 años de formación en la Escuela de Santa Escucha de los Cruzados, ha estudiado en el Instituto Kino y fue al programa del diaconado con su esposo por 5 años. Su experiencia como directora espiritual es poca, pero tienen muchos deseos de seguir ejerciéndola. Estela tiene un director espiritual por más de 4 años.

 

Lo que la hizo estudiar para ser una directora espiritual, es que vio la necesidad de directores espirituales para la gente hispana y más que nada la necesidad que hay en el ser humano de ser escuchado y acompañado en las diferentes etapas de sus vidas. Así juntos que lleguen al encuentro con dios Verdadero. Ella está llena de felicidad y gozo el ver que los dirigidos encuentran paz y tranquilidad al ser escuchados y al compartir sus problemas y luchas diarias y sus logros.  Durante sus sesiones trata de tener un ambiente de acogida (amable, confianza y respeto), clima de apertura una disposición de escuchar con interés, comprender al dirigido y sobre todo pide e invoca la presencia del Espíritu Santo. La meta de Estela es acompañar al dirigido por el camino correcto a su encuentro personal con Dios y que sepa a qué es lo que lo llama, y el plan de Dios en su vida.

Deacon Sergio is an ordained deacon in the Diocese of Phoenix. He speaks Spanish and English. His approach to spiritual direction is to have an open conversation and together look for God’s presence in particular situations and actions that take place. He helps people discover what God is calling them to do.

 

El diácono Sergio es un diácono ordenado en la Diócesis de Phoenix. Habla español e inglés. Su enfoque hacia la dirección espiritual es tener una conversación abierta y buscar juntos la presencia de Dios en situaciones y acciones particulares que tienen lugar. Él ayuda a las personas a descubrir lo que Dios les está llamando a hacer.

Ramon along with his wife Rosa were consecrated as a couple to the service of the Lord since 1985.  His spirituality is charismatic with most recent teaching and formation under the Crosiers.  He served as an Hispanic prayer group coordinator for thirteen years.  He was appointed as Coordinator of the Diocese of Phoenix Catholic Renewal MInistries when the English and Spanish ministries were united.  Hired under Bishop O’Brien, Ramon then became the Director and Bishop’s Liaison to the Renewal for four years, travelling nationwide as a member of the Association of Diocesan Liaisons.  He is also a graduate of the 1st International Institute for Catholic Charismatic Leadership Formation held in Rome, Italy, 2005. 

 

Other experience and education includes certification in marriage preparation, couple counseling, and prayer ministry with emphasis on inner healing; conference and retreat organization, youth ministry, and evangelization within and outside of the United States.

 

He believes Jesus calls us by name and wants to nourish us so that we may have strength for the journey.

Prior to joining the Crosiers in 2011, Fr. Alex Juguilon, osc, worked as a doctor in Northeast Ohio.  His years of training in the care of patients has carried over into the care of souls in what St. Augustine calls the cura animarum. Living the Rule of St. Augustine as a member of the Crosier Fathers and Brothers and having studied St. Augustine’s works in his years of Crosier formation and theological studies at St. John’s School of Theology and Seminary, Fr. Alex’s style of spiritual direction calls attention to the transcendent horizon of divine personal initiative.  This means that the accent falls on care for the interiority of persons. 

 

Fr. Alex combines this Augustinian approach with the spiritual direction formation he received at the Hesychia School of Spiritual Direction at the Redemptorist Renewal Center in Tuscon, AZ.  There he learned the evocative method, a process by which the spiritual director watches, listens, and looks for ways to help the directee find his or her way from the desires and stirrings of their own heart.

 

Fr. Alex is an active listener and hopes that a re-vitalization of pastoral care in the patristic style of St. Augustine combined with the evocative style of Hesychia will be a helpful approach for persons living in a world that is losing belief in God and the soul.

 

Fr. Alex was ordained to the priesthood by The Most Reverend Eduardo Nevares, auxiliary bishop for the Diocese of Phoenix on May 26, 2018 at St. Gregory Catholic Church in Phoenix.  Since his ordination, Fr. Alex served in many different capacities for the Crosiers. He was the Director of Vocations and Director of Postulants.  He served as a member of the Global Development Office for the Conventual Priory of the Holy Cross.

 

Besides serving the Crosier Order, Fr. Alex also assisted at St. Gregory’s Parish and School from 2017-2024.  In addition to celebrating Mass and administering the sacraments, he taught religion class to 6th–8th graders, was in charge of RCIA and served in various roles of pastoral ministry.

 

In addition to parish ministry, Fr. Alex also engaged in youth and young adult ministry.  From 2018-2024 he served as chaplain for Benedictine University in Mesa where he also taught Patristics and Bio-Ethics as an adjunct professor. He took college students abroad to serve in missions in Belize and Mexico and remains the chaplain for the Young Catholic Professionals Chapter in Phoenix.  He also celebrates Mass for the Arizona Cardinals.

 

Today, Fr. Alex’s main responsibility is serving as the Conventual Prior (major superior) for the Crosier Fathers and Brothers in the United States since being elected in 2024.

Guillermina was born in Mexico and grew up in a family with strong Catholic traditions. She attended public school and later a Catholic university. Guillermina has lived in Arizona for several decades and works in psychological counseling and spiritual direction.

 

She believes that spiritual direction opens a door to a direct relationship with God. Through spiritual direction, Guillermina is learning to pay attention to how God is revealed to her through daily actions. She is increasing her ability to decide how to respond to God's call and to establish her own dialogue.

 

Guillermina nació en México y creció en una familia con fuertes tradiciones católicas. Asistió a la escuela pública y luego a una universidad católica. Guillermina ha vivido en Arizona por varias décadas y trabaja en consejería psicológica y dirección espiritual.

Ella cree que la dirección espiritual abre la puerta a una relación directa con Dios. A través de la dirección espiritual, Guillermina está aprendiendo a prestar atención a cómo Dios se le revela a través de las acciones diarias. Ella está aumentando su capacidad para decidir cómo responder al llamado de Dios y establecer su propio diálogo.

Karina serves as bilingual spiritual director at Crosier Village and other East Valley locations and also offers service via phone or videoconference. She graduated from the Crosiers’ ESEC program and is a member of Spiritual Directors International. Karina listens to a person’s story in the context of a trusted relationship, and while being attentive to the Holy Spirit, she helps others reflect on how God is present in their daily life experiences.

Karina has attended various inner-healing classes and seminars, including Francis McNutt-Christian Healing Ministries, Neal Lozano-Unbound, Elijah House-Inner Healing and Prayer Ministries, Ed Smith–Transformational Prayer, and others. She has been part of prayer teams at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, City of the Lord, and the Franciscan Friars of the Holy Spirit. She has served as a team member at various English and Spanish Grief-to-Grace retreats, which focus on trauma healing.

Prior to dedicating her life to serving God and the community, Karina was in the banking industry, leading various teams as a senior IT project manager. She has an MBA from ASU and an accounting degree. 

 

Karina nació en Bolivia y ha vivido en los Estados Unidos desde el 1982.  Es directora espiritual bilingüe en el Crosier Village, en otras ubicaciones del East Valley y también ofrece servicio por teléfono o videoconferencia. A native New Yorker, Jude Verley joined the Crosiers in 1964, first as a candidate for Crosier Brotherhood, then eventually studying for the priesthood, and was ordained in 1979.  

 

During his 56 years as a Crosier, Fr. Jude has lived and ministered in 10 different Crosier communities as a tailor, secretary, and cook during his brotherhood years, and for 35 years as pastor and associate pastor in Crosier parishes. In the last five years, living in Phoenix has provided Jude with opportunities to minister to the incarcerated, youth, and seniors as a community liturgist, to provide assistance to parishes and various organizations, and to serve in internal leadership roles.  

 

Now, after 41 years of priesthood, he enters a new ministry, that of spiritual direction. As one lives Crosier religious life, new ways of ministering to the people of God emerge. After 56 years, this proves to be the case over and over again.
